The second step in getting a job is meeting the potential employer for an interview. The first step that the applicant has successfully completed is sending your application and passing the company’s screening process.
Employers have received resumes through a variety of sources which may be from a posted advertisement, a referral from a friend or headhunter, or by someone who has submitted an application by logging into the company’s website.
Here are some tips that will help in a successful interview;
• Before going into the interview, it is best to do some research about the company you are applying for.
• It’s also best to practice with a friend or family member mocking up the questions the employer asks so that you don’t suffocate during the actual interview.
• When you go for an interview, it is always best to arrive 10 to 15 minutes ahead of time. It shows employers that the person is punctual and serves as a good trait in a potential employee.
• When visiting an employer, you should bring a spare copy of the resume and any other documents needed if you have some questions. A good example are architects and photographers who are professionals in related fields who have a portfolio of work done that can impress the interviewer.
• It is always best to dress appropriately. It shows the honesty of the employer on the part of the applicant applying for the job. Fingernails and hair should be well groomed for the interview. The clothing worn should be professional. This would mean that shoes should be used to match the outfit. If you usually wear a lot of jewelry, it is advisable to remove it and reduce it for the interview.
• When you’re in front of the employer, greet the interviewer with a firm (but not bone-crushing) smile, which is always a good start to advance the interview.
• Listen carefully to the questions asked during the interview. Each must be answered truthfully and confidently in order to be able to sell itself to a potential employer.
• Afterwards, the applicant should thank the recruiter for the time taken to meet for the interview.
